[English translation below]
Maps of neighbourhoods (buurtkaarten) of the Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam, 18th-19th Centuries
NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE
Most genealogists with ancestors in Amsterdam probably know the addresses of their relatives. However, they might wish to visualise where these could be found in the Jewish Quarter. As an appendix to his family book, our member Ko Sturkop worked the so-called Loman maps (Amsterdam City Archives) and merged them into an overall review. Through this, one can quickly find the location of a street, canal or square within that overall review as well as within the pertaining neighbourhood (buurt). A register of street names has been attached, also containing the obsolete street names. Besides this, a description is attached to each neighbourhood.
As a service to fellow members and others, Ko Sturkop has converted the appendix into webpages, to be found here. Not only all information of the paper version can be studied, but one can navigate swiftly through the neighbourhoods and find what is looked for. The texts are somewhat personalized to the author’s genealogy but this should not prevent anybody from finding what one is looking for.
