I’m searching about a jewish Portugueese family, Mauricio Espinosa, who imigrated to Den Haag at the bigining of the 19th century, there he married and had two children, a girl and a boy, the name of the boy was Leon Moïse Espinosa. He was a celebrated dancer and choreographer.
In all his papers and references in France he said he was born in La Haye, but the years are not clear, maybe in 1825, or 1829-1830.
Actually, I have found in a frenche article that he left La Haye to travel to Paris, in 1841, at the age of eleve. I’ve been looking at familysearch archives for La Haye, but there is no trace of him neither of his family.
At the marriage register in London, in 1873, at the certificate nº 484, the father of Leon was Mauricio Espinosa, deceased, but who had the profession of “Secretary to Spanish consul”. I guess it means that the Spanish consul was at Holland, but in which city? Mauricio Espinosa died when Leon was 7 years old, so it could be at the begining of the 1830’s. It could be very helpful to know who was the spanish consul at that time and where was located the spanish consulate, in Amsterdam or in Den Haag.
The Leon’s mother doesn’t appear anywhere. I’m following an article about Leon Espinosa published in Paris in 1866, but there I saw only Leon’s name. He had also a sister.
I know this a very complicated search, since no records about Spinosa are in La Haye archives. So, any help from your side would be deeply appreciated. I sent letters to many Dutch institutions, but no positive andwer so far.
Sincerely yours
